Job Title: 401(k), Payroll and Wellness Specialist
Location: Fountain Valley, CA (100% Onsite)
Employment Type: Temporary (2-3 months covering LOA)
Pay: $26-$32/hr.
Summary
We are seeking a Temporary Business Partner to support payroll, 401(k), and wellness program administration. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing, maintaining HRIS and timekeeping systems, and managing retirement and wellness benefits programs. The ideal candidate will provide guidance to employees and leaders on payroll and benefits-related matters while supporting ongoing improvements to HR systems and programs.
Responsibilities
Payroll & Compliance
- Serve as backup for bi-weekly payroll processing and independently manage monthly expatriate payroll
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in compliance with wage and hour regulations
- Calculate earnings, deductions, and complex payroll adjustments, including incentive pay and garnishments
- Review and reconcile timekeeping data; process corrections and audit payroll records
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries and partner with departments on compensation, accruals, and reporting
- Coordinate with external vendors (e.g., ADP) to resolve discrepancies and maintain data accuracy
- Prepare required government reports and ensure compliance with tax, garnishment, and regulatory agencies
HRIS & Systems Administration
- Act as backup administrator for HRIS and time/attendance systems
- Maintain employee records for hires, changes, and terminations
- Generate standard and ad hoc reports for payroll, finance, and HR audits
- Support system enhancements, integrations, troubleshooting, and user training
401(k) & Benefits Administration
- Administer 401(k) program including enrollments, changes, distributions, loans, and compliance activities
- Maintain benefit records across HRIS and vendor platforms
- Assist with fiduciary committee coordination and support plan communications and training
- Monitor participation, analyze plan performance, and recommend improvements
Wellness Program Management
- Oversee day-to-day administration of the wellness program
- Develop and promote initiatives to support employee health, engagement, and retention
- Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend enhancements
General Benefits & Cross-Functional Support
- Provide backup support for broader benefits administration, including leave tracking and premium management
- Assist with compliance updates and regulatory changes impacting benefits programs
- Support HR and finance audits, reporting requests, and special projects (e.g., labor cost, overtime reporting)
Analysis, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct audits and analysis of payroll and benefits data (e.g., 401(k), FSA, accruals)
- Monitor program costs, trends, and utilization; develop recommendations for optimization
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost containment strategies for benefits programs
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- 4-6 years of experience in Human Resources, with strong exposure to payroll, benefits, and HRIS
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on payroll experience preferred
- Experience administering 401(k) or similar benefits programs
- Familiarity with HRIS and time/attendance systems; experience with system maintenance and reporting
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify issues, and recommend solutions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and database systems
- Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to support employees at all levels
